Call of Duty: Mobile is one of the most popular multiplayer games on Android and iOS. Today, intelligence firm Sensor Tower reported that the game surpassed 250 million downloads worldwide. Activision Blizzard is the publisher of the game but this number includes its international publishing partners. By the time of writing, the game has almost 10 million reviews on Google Play and its rating is 4.5 out of 5. On the App Store, it has 1 million reviews and 4.8 ratings.
Call of Duty: Mobile reached this milestone in about eight months
Activision worked with Tencent’s Timi Studios to develop the game. It reached this milestone in over eight months only. It also surpassed Epic Games’ Fortnite and Tencent’s PUBG Mobile. In the same period of time, Fortnite (which launched only on iOS) generated 78 million downloads while PUBG Mobile is close to COD with 236 million downloads. Call of Duty: mobile is most popular in the United States where it been downloaded 45 million times. That’s 18 percent of total installs. Until now, Call of Duty: Mobile made about $327 million in player spending worldwide. It generated 78 percent more compared to PUBG Mobile in the same period of time after it began monetizing in April 2018. In May, the game made about $53 million, which is the second-best month for revenue. Back in October 2019, the FPS hit generated $55 million, which is its peak. Furthermore, the United States accounted for 41 percent of total revenue while Japan and Brazil followed respectively.
A successful partnership
Tencent is the biggest mobile games publishers in the world. Activision had great success in the market by partnering with the Chinese giants in terms of revenue and player base. The game is also one of many titles that have seen a steady uptick in revenue amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.
