European Mobile Gaming Report: 2021

Mobile games generated $11.2 billion in revenue in Europe in 2021, up 16.7 percent year-over-year.

Mobile game revenues in Europe have been announced.

Sensor Tower has published a new report for 2021. The report includes a lot of data such as the spending of European players, the number of downloads of games, the most revenue, and downloaded games Google Play and App Store comparison.

61% of user spending for all mobile applications in Europe was for mobile games. In 2020, the place of mobile games in the European application market was 64.8%. Although the percentage of mobile games in total revenue decreased in 2021, its revenues increased by 16.7% to reach 11.2 billion dollars.

In 2021, entertainment and social networking applications grew rapidly in Europe. Mobile games also showed similar growth, increasing their overall revenues. European player spend accounts for around 12.7% of global mobile gaming revenues.

When the game market is examined globally, the game revenues in the App Store are above the revenues from Google Play. In Europe, the situation is the opposite. Google Play users spent $6.4 billion in the region last year, up 18.5%, while the App Store generated $4.8 billion in revenue, up 14.3% from player spend.

Google Play accounted for 57.5% of mobile game revenues in Europe, while the App Store accounted for 42.5%. Germany was one of the major countries in Google Play game revenue. Spending on showcase games by players in Germany reached $1.3 billion. This expenditure represents 24.2% of all mobile gaming revenues in the country. England and France followed Germany in player expenditures.

In Europe, Google Play generated more revenue than the App Store.

Combined game downloads across Europe fell from 12.5 billion in 2020 to 11.9 billion in 2021, down 4.8%. Unique installs for Google Play fell 3% to 9.8 billion, while App Store downloads fell more than 12.5% to 2.1 billion. Overall, Google Play accounted for 82.3% of total game downloads in Europe last year, while the App Store accounted for 17.7%.

Compared to last year, there is a decrease in the number of downloads.

PUBG Mobile, from Tencent, reached $404.2 million in player spending, increasing 58.3% yearly. With these statistics, it became the highest-grossing mobile game of 2021. Coin Master from Active with $392 million and Roblox with $264 million followed PUBG Mobile.

PUBG Mobile was also the fastest-growing game in Europe’s top 10 grossing games. It was followed by State of Survival from FunPlus, which achieved a 51.4% year-over-year increase in player spending, and Roblox, with 29.4% revenue growth.

The download count table is slightly different. Count Masters by Tap2Play topped the European game download chart with 38.2 million downloads in 2021. Five of the top 10 most downloaded games were hyper-casual games.

The published Sensor Tower report also includes the most downloaded social networking applications. Tinder is the highest-grossing app in Europe, followed by Disney+ and TikTok.
