The streaming giant had a very strong 2022 and seems to continue its growth in 2023.

Netflix has been very active in the gaming space during 2022. The streaming giant now has a game library of 48 games and several studios under its belt.

Since its launch in November 2021, Netflix Games acquired four studios, opened two new studios, and even made a deal with Ubisoft for three exclusive games. The first studio acquired was Night School Studio, best known as the developer of Oxenfree.

During March 2022, Netflix acquired Next Games along with three new games for the platform; This is a True Story, Shatter, and Dead 2: Unleashed. A few days later, Netflix announced the acquisition of mobile game-developing studio Boss Fight Entertainment. Boss Fight Entertainment is an independent game studio like the first two.

In September, Netflix opened a new internal video game studio in Helsinki, Finland. The new Netflix studio in Helsinki will have Marko Lastikka, former Zynga Helsinki General Manager as the Studio Director and will have identical goals to the rest of the Netflix-owned game makers: “Building world-class video games.”

Netflix opened a new studio in Southern California, with Overwatch veteran Chacko Sonny at the helm in October, focusing on cloud gaming. Netflix VP Mike Verdu said that the new studio doesn’t aim to become a console replacement. The new studio will also develop a AAA game, although not many details are shared with the public besides job posts.

In November Netflix acquired Spry Fox, the developer of Cozy Grove, Triple Town, Alphabeaver, and Road Not Taken.

The streaming giant had a very strong 2022 and seems to continue its growth in 2023. Netflix already announced that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and Vikings: Valhalla will be coming to the platform. 80s-inspired beat ’em up game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will be available on mobile exclusively for Netflix Members.
