Introducing itself as both a gaming company and a blockchain technology platform, Toronto-based Horizon Blockchain Games has raised $4.5 million to further develop the blockchain-based gaming ecosystem for games like Skyweaver. Bitkraft Ventures, CMT Digital, The Xchange Company, Khaled Verjee, and Zyshan Kaba took place as investors.
Michael Sanders, Co-Founder of Horizon Blockchain Games, said the following in an interview with GamesBeat:
“We are very excited to bring Bitkraft as an investor and deepen our relationship with CMT, which has been our investor since the beginning of 2020, and it really means a lot to us. We are very excited to be one of their first investments in Blockchain and Web3.”
Horizon Blockchain Games was launched in January 2018 and released the Skyweaver HTML5-based digital collectible card game with NFT in 2019. The game also has iOS and Android versions.
Horizon’s vision is to bring the symbiotic economies and power of Web3 and the cryptocurrency Ethereum to gamers, consumers, and developers with products designed specifically for everyday Internet users. It makes the Sequence crypto and NFT wallet as well as Skyweaver game designed to be simple, fun, and accessible to casual users.
“We truly believe that in the next decade every company will be a Web3 company and every person with an internet connection will have a Web3 wallet. That’s where we’re headed. We’ve been running this thesis since 2018 and more and more projects are online with more verification. It’s really great to see it become a reality.”
Horizon gives end users a game and a consumer-friendly wallet to access Web3, while also giving developers the tools to build the future of a truly decentralized worldwide network.
“Our vision is to build this new dimension where internet economies are fun, accessible, and beneficial to all participants. We do this by making the blockchain easy, fun, and powerful for users and developers, driving Web3 adoption. In addition, players are rewarded for their skills, We have Skyweaver, our free-to-play trading card game, and then we have Sequence, which makes it easy for users to access Web3 and Ethereum with our consumer-friendly crypto and NFT smart contract wallet.”
Sanders said existing users are valuable for growing the community, but Horizon has yet to fully return the vibrant economy in the game. So the company is not making any money yet and continues to test the game, which has more than 500 unique cards. However, Sanders gave signals that the game will go into open beta soon.
