Paradox Interactive buys Airlines Manager developers

Paradox Interactive is one of the most popular developers and publishers of strategy games on PC. They released many hit games such as Europa Universalis IV, Hearts of Iron IV, Cities: Skylines, Stellaris, and more. Today, the Sweden-based company announced that it is acquiring Playrion Game Studio, the team behind Airlines Manager: Tycoon 2020. Playrion Game Studio, a mobile-focused developer based in Paris. Founded in 2010, Playrion will join Paradox as its eighth internal studio.

Airlines Manager has more than 10 million players

The game originally started as a student project and browser-based management game. The game has more than 10 million players since it came out in 2014. This kind of games (complex management) is what Paradox Interactive good at, therefore, it decided to buy it. Charlotta Nilsson, Chief Operations Officer at Paradox Interactive said the following in a press release:

Adding Playrion to our roster allows us to continue expanding our business in new areas, and bring more of our IPs to mobile. We’re always thrilled when we find teams who want to make the kind of games we’d like to make ourselves. Playrion is a natural addition to the Paradox family, and we’re delighted to have them joining us.

With adding Playrion Game Studio to Paradox’s roster, the company owns now 8 studios as we mentioned above. These studios are Paradox Development Studio in Stockholm; Paradox Arctic in Umeå, Sweden; the Paradox development team in Malmö, Sweden; Paradox Tectonic in Berkeley, California; Triumph Studios in Delft, The Netherlands; Harebrained Schemes in Seattle; and Paradox Tinto in Barcelona.
