Sony aims to make $300 million from PC games this year

The PlayStation bosses expect a significant amount of revenue coming from their games released on PC.
Sony PlayStation titles lined up

Not too long ago, almost every title coming from Sony was exclusive games, meaning they were only playable on Sony PlayStation and not on any other platform. This has changed since March 2020, beginning with Horizon Zero Dawn, a successful used-to-be PlayStation exclusive game.

Sony released a business segment briefing for shareholders, showing how well “PlayStation PC” is doing. In the financial year 2020 Sony made $35 million from PC sales, in 2021 the number increased up to $80 million, and now the industry giant expects to see $300 million from PC sales in the financial year 2022, which will end on March 31, 2023.

The gaming giant earned well from Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Days Gone on PC but expecting such a huge leap in revenue when there’s only one game —Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection— officially coming to PC this year. Sony has a rich gallery of games that can shake the foundations of the PC market easily, but they are yet to announce more titles coming to the platform.

Games such as Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, Shadow of the Colossus, and many others can bring in such high revenue. PlayStation boss expecting this kind of revenue signals that more exclusives will make their way to the PC in the upcoming months, and no doubt this will make PC players across the world quite happy.

One major detail to consider would be Sony acquiring Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2. The game is doing well and comes with microtransactions. There’s a high chance the expectations set in this report include the cash Destiny 2′ brings in via this revenue model.

With how well Sony titles doing on PC despite being released without any anti-piracy methods, $300 million doesn’t seem like an impossible goal.
