The Japanese entertainment and video game company Square Enix’s London studio unveiled a new Avatar: The Last Airbender game that’s been in the works for some time. Avatar: Generations will be a free-to-play tactical RPG mobile game and have the players adventure along the original Team Avatar (Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, and Suki).

The new Avatar game will have multiple chapters and honors its name. The first chapter will focus on Aang and the Team Avatar’s quest to stop the Fire Nation. Later chapters will have the gamers play with previous Avatars like Kyoshi and Roku, as well as Korra (Aang’s successor) and her version of Team Avatar.

Avatar: Generations will be available on iOS and Android devices, and the game will soft launch in Canada, Denmark, South Africa, and Sweden; more territories will follow in the upcoming months before the full launch.

Square Enix London said the game will feature squad-based battles and allow players to free roam in the open world, and visit fan-favorite iconic locations from Nickelodeon’s Avatar series. The game will have its own unique stories as well as some of the key narratives from the original show.

Patrick Naud, Head of Mobile at Square Enix Montréal said:

“We are thrilled to unveil ‘Avatar: Generations’ as the second official title in production from Square Enix London Mobile and I can’t wait for players to dive in later this year. Avatar: Generations represents Square Enix London Mobile’s continued investment in publishing high-quality free-to-play mobile titles based on iconic IPs.”

The new Avatar mobile game is being developed by Navigator Games. The developer shares a glimpse of what awaits the players on the game’s official website, but at the time of writing, there’s just one piece of artwork that shows Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Momo, flying on Appa and a short description of the game.

Will Moore, CEO, Navigator Games added:

“With a globally beloved brand of this level, we’ve endeavored to create a game that expands the rich and storied universe of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ in a way that feels authentic and exciting to fans of the series and RPG games alike. At the same time, we’ve ensured that the game remains accessible to anyone who doesn’t traditionally play RPGs.

“Our partners at Square Enix London Mobile have been hugely supportive in these efforts, and we’re working closely with our community during this soft launch period to make the best version of the game possible.”

Per the rumors that surfaced in early 2022, there’s still another Avatar: The Last Airbender game in development that is yet to be announced. Avatar: Generations will be Square Enix London Mobile’s second game ever, the first one being Tomb Raider Reloaded.
