Sumo Group announced the acquisition of the indie game developer PixelAnt Games for £250,000.
Wroclaw-based developer PixelAnt Games will be Sumo Digital’s first studio in mainland Europe. The studio, which was founded by Pawel Rohleder and Adam Lasoń in July 2020, was also the 10th studio to join Sumo Group. According to the announcement, the studio’s two founders, Rohleder and Lasoń will continue their roles after the acquisition.
PixelAnt Games employs 13 people and the entire team is currently working on Sumo Digital projects. However, the studio will also have the opportunity to develop an original IP in the future.
Indeed, the developer company, which stated that they aim to grow their teams rapidly in this direction, focused on winning third-party contracts while continuing to work on Sumo Digital projects.
Pawel Rohleder, Studio Director, PixelAnt said “We’re incredibly excited by the opportunities that being part of the Sumo family offers to PixelAnt. Sumo has demonstrated a proven commitment to each of its studios to give them what they need to make incredible games and hire the best people. We have very ambitious plans in place, and we know that Sumo is going to support us every step of the way.”
“In addition to adding supremely talented people to our family of studios in the form of Pawel, Adam, and their team, we now have our first base of operations in mainland Europe, allowing us to tap into Poland’s phenomenal talent pool,” said Gary Dunn, MD, Sumo Digital.
“As a full-service studio, PixelAnt will provide game development services to clients across the world, as well as own-IP opportunities, and will continue to work on Sumo projects. A huge welcome to the team in Wroclaw!”
Sumo Group operates 10 studios globally. The company, which acquired Lab42 and Pipeworks last year, appointed Phil Hindle as technical director of the Leamington Spa studio.
