Tamatem raises 3.5 million to expand beyond the MENA region

No one can doubt that the Middle East mobile games market is one of the biggest markets in the world. It’s growing each day that’s why lot of companies started to invest more in the region. Today, Tamatem, the leading mobile games publisher in Middle East and North America raised $3.5 million in funding. This investment is led by Wamda Capital with participation from Saudi Arabia’s Modern Electronics and the UK’s North Base Media.

Who is Tamatem?

The Amman-Jordon based mobile game publisher was founded in 2013 by Hussam Hammo. It started originally as a mobile games developer but continued as a publisher back in 2015-2016. The team mostly helps in localizing global titles for Arab gamers. It have published more than 45 games on Android and iOS, according to Tamatem’s official website, the company has over a million monthly active users.

“Tamatem has cemented its presence as a leader in MENA’s gaming market. This space driven by strong consumer demand for localized global titles and culturally relevant content. The launch of its fund offers an opportunity to further develop the gaming industry in the region. Tamatem is uniquely positioned to build strong partnerships with local and regional developers,” said Fadi Ghandour, executive chairman of Wamda.

What Comes After Getting The Funds?

Tamatem will start doing investments and acquisitions mostly targeted at supporting independent developers and studios. This will allow them to grow their titles and operations without losing their independence. The publisher also plans to go beyond the region and aims at publishing titles in other emerging and undeserved markets in 2020. They believe that this latest round of funding will allow them to truly deliver their vision. The company will also expand it’s business and double down its efforts in the region and plans to open a new office in Riyadh.
