The Sensor Tower global mobile game market revenues report has been published. According to the report, the global mobile games market generated an estimated $7.4 billion in player spending on the App Store and Google Play in January 2022. This represents a 7% year-over-year decline in revenue.
The USA is the country with the highest income worldwide. The US generated $2.1 billion in revenue, accounting for 28% of total revenues. Japan took second place with 19.3%, and China took third place with 17.8%. At this point, it is worth noting that Google Play is not used in China.
PUBG Mobile was the top-grossing mobile game worldwide in January 2022. Players spent $237 million for PUBG Mobile, of which 64% came from China. The game is known as Game For Peace in China. The second-highest revenue-generating country for PUBG Mobile was the USA with 8%, followed by Turkey with 7%.
The second game that generated the most revenue during January was Honor of Kings, again from Tencent. Honor of Kings generated $233.2 million in gross revenue. About 96% of the game’s revenues came from China. China’s dominant structure in Tencent games shows itself here as well.
The third game was Genshin Impact from MiHoYo. Genshin Impact, which is frequently mentioned with its revenues, generated $208.7 million in revenue, an increase of 37% year on year. Candy Crush Saga and Roblox followed it.
These revenues are based on Google Play and App Store revenues. Sensor Tower’s report does not include application revenues generated by third-party tools.
