Tony Hawk, whom we met at the end of the 90s, has played a role in many skateboarding games developed by Activision since then. Tony Hawk, who is preparing to enter the metaverse with The Sandbox while continuing with his own company Birdman in the skateboarding industry, also takes a role in a skateboarding foundation for young people called The Skatepark Project.

Tony Hawk LAND, created in collaboration with Autograph and The Sandbox, will reportedly be the largest skate park in both the real and metaverse worlds. In addition, Autograph will create an NFT collection that can be used on The Sandbox, featuring Tony Hawk’s iconic skateboards, gear, and clothing.

Hawk explains what the metaverse means to him by including the following words in his statement:

“I’ve been a fan of new technology all of my life — from the first videogames to home computers with CGI capabilities — so I’m fascinated by the metaverse.”

To understand the history of the Tony Hawk games, we need to go back to 1999. 1999, the year the first game of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series was released, was a turning point for skateboarding games.

The game, which was first released on PlayStation and then on Nintendo 64, was supported by motion capture technology and offered players a very realistic skateboarding experience. The series, which appeals to a niche audience, will have won the players’ appreciation, as it has had 16 games to date.

The Sandbox COO, Sebastien Borget, said in a statement:

“Tony Hawk embodies the perseverance of constantly striving for improvement while never giving up, and it forged him into a skateboarding legend and successful entrepreneur. We share his passion for innovation, creativity and the drive to constantly create something: This is the energy that powers our entertainment metaverse. There’s no better way to bring skateboarding culture to The Sandbox than by following the example of the greatest skateboarder of all time, whose legacy stretches from the sport and lifestyle’s early days to the present and beyond.”

The popularity of Tony Hawk games had instilled a love of skateboarding in many players from when they were first released to the present day. The franchise, which has reached a billion-dollar value, now aims to continue in the metaverse universe.
