Twitch has announced a policy update that will ban unlicensed gambling sites, effectively shutting down a lot of scams and unwanted attraction for minors on the platform. This issue has been on the company’s radar for quite some time, and judgment day has finally arrived.

The massive streaming platform had previously prohibited link sharing and referral codes that led to slots, roulette, or dice gaming sites. The team shared that they’ve observed these rules being overrun by various parties, and the community is at risk.

Prominent streamers such as Pokimane, xQc, Mizkif, and Devin Nash raised their voices about the still ongoing issue, some effectively threatening Twitch with a strike. The platform responded quickly and shared a statement about the long-lasting gambling problem.

Twitch’s upcoming policy update will “prohibit streaming of gambling sites that include slots, roulette, or dice games that aren’t licensed either in the US or other jurisdictions that provide sufficient consumer protection.” Stake, Rollbit, Duelbits, and Roobet were the first wave of websites hit by the new policy’s ban regulations.

Platform officials have also warned others that these might not be the last bans they’ll dish out. Twitch will continue allowing sports betting, fantasy sports, and poker. You can read the complete statement below.

Further details about the policy update are unknown as of now. Still, the team has assured the community that more information and specifics about gambling bans will soon be shared. The new rules will take effect starting from October 18.
