As Kotaku reports, Unity is laying off more than 300 people worldwide. That number corresponds to about 4% of the total workforce. As Kotaku says, that number consists of layoffs from the AI and engineering divisions.

The company said it took this step to realign resources. In the financial reports shared in the period after the New Year, it was seen that the company’s 2021 revenues climbed and reached $ 1.1 billion.

The company talks to Engadget about the layoffs:

“As part of a continued planning process where we regularly assess our resourcing levels against our company priorities, we decided to realign some of our resources to better drive focus and support our long-term growth. This resulted in some hard decisions that impacted approximately 4% of all Unity workforce. We are grateful for the contributions of those leaving Unity and we are supporting them through this difficult transition.”

According to the information conveyed, Unity will stop hiring entirely and provide assurances such as severance pay, COBRA health insurance, and one-month extra payment to its dismissed employees.
