According to the report, half of App Store and nearly two-thirds of Google Play Store user spending comes from mobile games. App Store mobile games revenue has been determined as $21 billion, while Google Play Store generated $11.4 billion from mobile games during Q3 of 2022.

The report has also stated that the recent MAU (Monthly Active User) trend was focused on game genres like sandbox and esports. Data.ai listed the top three on MAU as Roblox, Candy Crush Saga, and Subway Surfers.

Subway Surfers, Stumble Guys, and Free Fire was the top three on download count, as Honor of Kings, Candy Crush Saga, and Game for Peace saw the most consumer spend this quarter. Roblox and Candy Crush Saga managed to be in the top ten in all three charts.

Data.ai determined the weekly spend on mobile games as $1.54 billion and weekly downloads as over 1.1 billion. On a year-over-year basis, the figures are lower compared to 2021, but weekly spending has increased by 25% compared to Q3 of 2019. The comparison is between three years ago and now, because the period in between is defined as the COVID period and will not generate reliable data.

The report has also revealed that while half of Google Play Store’s 30 billion download count consists of games, for the App Store, this number rolls down to a quarter of the total 8.7 billion downloads. Data.ai shares that Android surpassed iOS sevenfold in the download count in Q3 2022.

The company states that the difference between platforms comes from regional popularity. Google Play has the lead in markets such as Brazil and India, while iOS sits on the throne in big markets like China and the US.

Data.ai suggests that due to the emergence of premium mobile games, the total gaming revenue might reach $222 billion by the end of 2022, with 60% coming from the mobile platform.
